Stuart is a Valuer from Scotland who immigrated to New Zealand in January 2004, joining Baker & Associates in April of that year. He achieved Registered Valuer status in May 2005.

Stuart attended the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester and in 1987 was elected an Associate of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, the governing body for valuers and property professionals in the United Kingdom. He spent 17 years working in Scotland as a valuer & property consultant. Firstly with the UA Group plc, where he became the Managing Director of the Company’s property division, and thereafter with his own rural valuation practice based in the Scottish Borders.

The Chartered Surveyors / Valuers role in the UK is more varied than that of Valuers in New Zealand. This has allowed Stuart to gain wide experience in not only the valuation of farms, residential and commercial property, but also extensive knowledge in the buying and selling of farms & development land. Stuart also has wide experience in arbitration, property management and consultancy services in relation to easements, and the acquisition of land for cross country gas pipelines, new roads, telecommunications masts, electricity transmission lines and wind farms.

In his time with Baker & Associates, Stuart has been involved with the valuation of rural, lifestyle and residential properties throughout the Wairarapa. He has also been involved in providing independent advice to New Zealand landowners on a number of wind farm and renewable energy projects in Otago, Hawkes Bay, South Canterbury and North Wairarapa.

Stuart's other areas of consultancy expertise involve easement & compensation negotiations in relation to the upgrading and construction of new Transmission Lines by Transpower. This is an area of rural valuation and property consultancy that is expected to affect hundreds of New Zealand landowners over the next ten years.
